The thriving market town of Newcastle Emlyn lies between the counties of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion in West Wales. Along the town's main street visitors can explore an inviting selection of cafés, restaurants, and pubs as well as a variety of independent shops.
To the east of the town, overlooking the River Teifi, stand the 13th century ruins of Newcastle Emlyn Castle. Founded by the Welsh Prince, Maredudd ap Rhys, around 1240 the castle is unique in that very few Welsh-built stone castles can be found in West Wales. From the castle visitors can enjoy a riverside story walk which tells the tale of the last dragon to be slain in Wales.
